Starting Gardening  Sue Johnson and Cheryl Evans / Paperback / Published 1996 / Usborne   A childrens guide to gardening, with a variety of indoor and outdoor projects.  Grow a salad, strawberries and a sunflower, make a wildlife garden or ivy topiary, take cuttings and learn about bulbs and seeds.   Starting Gardening includes a glossary of basic gardening words, safety tips and clear illustrations and photos.  Sue Johnson is Education Officer for the Royal Horticultural Society.  
  Usborne Spotters Sticker Books:  Butterflies George E. Hyde / Published 2000 / Usborne   Over fifty butterflies are illustrated on colourful stickers.  Match each sticker with the line drawing and description for each butterfly.  The butterflies include common, woodland, coastal and meadow species, from the Red Admiral common garden butterfly to the zebra-striped Scarce Swallowtail.
What Shall I Grow? Ray Gibson / Published 1997 / Usborne   Grow a tiny garden, roots and shoots, a giant sunflower, crocuses in a silver pot, an ivy tower, a spiky plant, green-haired creatures, a sweet-smelling flower and much more!  Step-by-step instructions lead the way with colourful photos and illustrations.
Usborne Spotters Guides:  Trees Esmond Harris /  Published 2000 / Usborne   Pocket-sized guide for identifying trees of Britain and Europe.  Follow the clues such as leaves, bark, tree shape and fruits to identify common and not-so-common trees in woods, parks, gardens, the countryside and even in the street.  Record your progress on the scorecard at the back of the book.  Written by the Director of the Royal Forestry Society
Usborne Spotters Guides:  Wild Flowers Christopher J. Humphries / Published 2000 / Usborne   Identify wild flowers of Britain and Europe with this handy pocket-sized guide written by a member of the Botany Department of the National History Museum.  Learn to recognise flowers by their colour, leaf shape and size, and record your progress on the scorecard at the back of the book.
Usborne Spotters Guides:  Bugs and Insects  Anthony Wootton / Published 2000 / Usborne    Learn about ladybirds, beetles, ants, moths, dragonflies and many more insects of Britain and Europe, with this pocket-sized guide.  You can use the scorecard at the back of the book to keep a record of insects you find.  The book includes tips for finding insects, and facts about each insect paired with lifelike illustrations
Usborne Spotters Guides:  Birds Peter Holden / Published 2000 / Usborne   Learn to recognise birds of Britain and Europe, and record your progress on a scorecard.  Identify owls, birds of prey, finches, waders, ducks and geese, blackbirds, sparrows and many more birds. Book includes useful addresses and websites. Written by the National Organiser of the Junior Section of the RSPB
